GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN EXPERT MILES COOK APPOINTED TO HEAD BAIN & COMPANY'S GLOBAL PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PRACTICE

Performance Improvement, a Core Strategic Capability for Businesses in a World of Globalized Competition, Reduced Demand, Volatile Costs and Tight Credit

New York - November 13, 2009 - Miles Cook, a partner in the Atlanta office of Bain & Company, has been appointed Global Performance Improvement Practice leader for the global business consulting firm. Mr. Cook's promotion was announced today by the firm's Worldwide Managing Director, Steve Ellis.

Mr. Cook will lead one of Bain's largest practices at a time when many businesses face enormous economic pressures. The practice has completed work with clients in every industry, with results ranging from working capital improvements and cost reductions to revenue acceleration and strengthened organizational capabilities.

For more than 15 years, Mr. Cook has advised Bain clients on improving performance, finding sources of cost savings and delivering cash flow improvements to fund growth. He founded and led Bain's Supply Chain Management Practice, which helps companies restructure supplier networks, optimize distribution networks, improve sales, enhance operational planning and deliver improved working capital and product costs.

"Miles is an accomplished and respected leader both within our firm and with his clients," said Mr. Ellis. "His approach to supply chain and performance improvement has helped companies go beyond finding savings to finding new means to invest in new growth opportunities. Performance improvement is a key survival skill for companies for the foreseeable future, given the expected turbulence of economic recovery and the tight global credit climate."

Mr. Cook has authored articles on supply chain effectiveness for leading business, academic and trade publications including The Financial Times, HBR Supply Chain Strategy, Supply Chain Management Review, The Journal of Business Strategy, Ivey Business Journal and Transportation & Distribution. He has also been quoted in media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, Forbes, Associated Press, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chicago Tribune, Houston Chronicle and San Francisco Chronicle.

In addition to his supply chain management expertise, Mr. Cook advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, sales force improvement and business expansion. He has also worked extensively with private equity and leveraged buyout firms, leading efforts to assess numerous investment opportunities across a wide variety of manufacturing and service businesses.

Mr. Cook earned an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford, where he was an Arjay Miller scholar. He is also a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in economics with highest distinction.
